Solar battery grant available for South Australian businesses.
Have you been looking for a long term solution to significantly reducing the running costs of your business?
For a limited time, the South Australian Government is offering to assist small businesses in reducing their rising energy costs and carbon footprint through the Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant.
With grants ranging between $2,500 and $50,000, the government will cover 50% of the GST excluded price of a battery system or solar-battery system for your business premises.
The grant can also be used in conjunction with Small Scale Technology (STC) rebates that are available for solar-battery installations. This will see many customers save between 60-80% off the original out of pocket cost of installing a solar-battery system.
So what is the catch?
The government has released only 20 million dollars worth of funding for this initiative and it is first come, first served.
Applications for the grant must be made by 29 November 2024 or before funding expires.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must hold a valid and active ABN.
- Have been registered for GST from the 27 August 2024 (when the grant became available). Not-for-profit organisations who are not registered for GST will need to provide their most recent lodged tax return confirming annual turnover was greater than $75,000.
- Be located and operating in South Australia.
- Have either: a separately metered annual power bill of less than 160Mwh per year which is approximately a power bill of less than $60,000 – $80,000 annually; or (if you do not meet this criteria) have an Australia-wide grouped payroll of less than $1.5 million in 2023-24.
- If your business is part of an embedded network and you do not receive an electricity bill either directly from an energy retailer or the building owner, you may still be eligible to apply.
- The business must own or lease the business premises where any work or goods will be installed or used.
- The business cannot be a residential property.
- The business must have the capacity to match funding of at least 50% of the cost of installing the solar-battery system.
- Businesses that are a public company within the meaning of the Corporations Act 2001 are not eligible.
Application Process
The application process for the Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant is straightforward.
- Application: Business owner submits an online application form at https://business.sa.gov.au/before purchasing the goods and or services.
- Approval: Once approved, the business owner will receive a Grant Agreement and Acceptance Form which must be accepted within 14 calendar days.
- Reimbursement:Reimbursement must be made within 6 months from the date the Grant Agreement and Acceptance Form is sent.
The grant reimbursement will be paid into the nominated business bank account within 15 days of your request.
