Looking for the best solar battery for your Adelaide home?...

When Sigenergy first entered the Adelaide solar battery market, it didn’t just add another battery option. It genuinely changed the conversation around what a home battery could do.
“When Sigenergy came out, it really raised the bar. Feature-for-feature, other brands just couldn’t compete, particularly on the software and smart control side.”
— Reefe Eleftheriou, Owner, Solar Energy Adelaide and trusted Adelaide solar battery installer.
Not long after that, GoodWe quietly took a step back from the premium battery space, and for a while, Sigenergy was largely in a league of its own.
Fast forward to today, and GoodWe has re-entered the premium battery space with a new product: the GoodWe ESA.
At first glance, the ESA looks very familiar. That’s no coincidence. Its design and layout make it clear that GoodWe is now responding to the benchmark Sigenergy set.
If you put a Sigenergy system and a GoodWe ESA system side by side, most homeowners would struggle to tell them apart at first glance.
That’s because both systems take a very similar, modern approach to battery design:
The stackable battery design is a big part of what sets these systems apart from older battery setups. Instead of installing one large, fixed-capacity battery, stackable systems let you start with what you need and add more modules later as your energy usage changes. That makes future expansion far simpler and avoids replacing an entire battery just to gain more capacity.
From an installer’s point of view, this style of system is also much cleaner. There’s less wall clutter, fewer separate components, and a far more streamlined finished result compared to traditional battery installations.
Both systems are designed with whole-home backup in mind, but they achieve it in slightly different ways. Sigenergy’s gateway-based approach offers refined control and electrical isolation, while the GoodWe ESA’s inverter-based backup simplifies the overall hardware setup. From a homeowner’s perspective, both approaches can keep essential circuits, or even the entire home, running during a blackout when the system is sized and configured correctly.
At this point, the two systems are far more alike than different. The real separation starts when you look at what each brand prioritises.
“From an installation point of view, these two systems are far more alike than different. They’re both clean, modular, and designed to make whole-home backup achievable without overcomplicating things. Where they really separate is in how they’re designed to be used day to day.”
— Reefe, Owner, Solar Energy Adelaide
Where these two systems truly diverge is not in how they look, but in how they’re designed to be used.
Sigenergy’s design philosophy is centred around intelligence and longevity.
One of its defining features is optional AI-driven energy management. When enabled, the system can learn your household’s energy usage patterns and automatically optimise when the battery charges, discharges, and exports energy. For households on time-of-use tariffs, this can reduce manual intervention and improve long-term efficiency.
Sigenergy also places strong emphasis on battery lifespan. It’s designed for a very high cycle life, which refers to how many full charge and discharge cycles a battery can complete before its usable capacity significantly degrades. In simple terms, more cycles generally means a longer working life.
Sigenergy batteries are designed for up to 10,000 cycles, which in real-world residential use can translate to 20 years or more of operation for many households.
GoodWe takes a more straightforward, practical approach with the ESA.
Rather than focusing on advanced AI features, the ESA prioritises reliability, simplicity, and performance where it matters most day to day. One standout feature is its 1C charging capability, meaning the battery can charge from 0 to 100 percent at full speed without throttling.
This allows the ESA to absorb large amounts of solar energy quickly during strong production periods, which can be particularly useful for households wanting to maximise self-consumption.
GoodWe ESA is also built using high-quality materials and modern safety systems, but it doesn’t quite match Sigenergy’s lifespan specifications, with an estimated cycle life of around 6,000 cycles.
“If you want smart tech and long-term optimisation, Sigenergy is built for that. If you want something more straightforward that charges fast and just does the job, the GoodWe ESA makes a lot of sense. Neither is wrong, it just depends on what you value.”
— Reefe, Owner, Solar Energy Adelaide
This is often where the decision becomes clearer for many households.
The GoodWe ESA is very competitively priced, particularly when increasing battery capacity. As homeowners move beyond smaller batteries and start looking at meaningful storage for backup and self-consumption, cost per kilowatt-hour becomes increasingly important.
In many cases, scaling up a GoodWe ESA system can be significantly more affordable than adding the same amount of storage to a Sigenergy system. For households wanting more capacity without stretching the budget, this can be a deciding factor.
Sigenergy typically comes with a higher upfront cost. That price reflects its advanced software, system intelligence, and longer expected lifespan. For some homeowners, that trade-off makes sense. For others, the additional capacity offered by GoodWe represents better overall value.
Your home’s phase compatibility is a practical detail that can quickly narrow your options.
Sigenergy currently offers a wide range of solutions for both single-phase and three-phase homes, making it suitable for everything from standard suburban houses to larger properties with higher energy demands.
The GoodWe ESA is currently available in a single-phase configuration. Three-phase options are expected, but until approvals are finalised, this does limit where the ESA can be used right now.
